European OMFS Trainee Forum

The European OMFS Trainee Forum is an initiative of the OMFS Section of UEMS. It aims to bring together OMFS trainees of all levels from all across Europe. By bringing trainees together in friendship and fellowship, the Forum will improve understanding within and communication between OMFS trainees and thereby enhance patient care.

The Forum has leadership from the OMFS representative of European Junior Doctors (EJD) www.juniordoctors.eu/ and from the trainee representative of the European Association of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgeon www.eacmfs.org . Where the trainee representative of EACMFS and the OMFS representative of EJD are different people, they jointly chair live and on-line meetings. If there is not a current representative from EJD, the OMFS Section will invite a trainee representative to deputise this role.

As the OMFS trainee forum of UEMS, with strong links to EACMFS as the European scientific society for the specialty, the objectives are those of UEMS with an OMFS focus. These are:

- The study, promotion and harmonisation of the highest level of OMFS training, OMFS practice and OMFS care within the European Union.

- The study and promotion of free movement of OMFS doctors within the EU

- The representation, within this framework, of the specialty of OMFS in the Member States of the EU, to EU authorities and any other authority and/or organisation dealing with questions directly or indirectly concerning the OMFS specialists and trainees, and any action which might further the achievement of these objectives.

- The defence of the professional interests of European OMFS

- communication and information sharing promoting friendship, fellowship, and camaradarie within the trainee group and across the specialty as a whole

Face To Face Meeting each March in Brussels (next meeting 10:30 am to 2pm Saturday March 7^th  2026)

This meeting will run in parallel with the OMFS Section and Board meetings in Brussels.

In common with UEMS meeting policies, this March meeting is live and will not usually be hybrid. This is because UEMS recognises the value of live meetings in building relationships and helping difficult discussions.

Expenses to attend live meeting

The OMFS Section supports the costs of the meeting (venue and lunch) but not travel expenses or accommodation for delegates. Trainees are asked to negotiate with their national OMFS society whom the trainees are representing. Nations which send delegates to the OMFS Section and Board already meet the expenses of these specialist delegates.

Online Meetings and WhatsApp Group

To build relationships, deliver actions and promote communication, trainees members of the OMFS forum are added to the Forum WhatsApp group and invited to online meetings. The online meetings are approximately every 2 months and their WhatsApp is an active social media group.

Members of the OMFS Trainees Forum are given access to this website’s delegates area. The Section website has the minutes and agenda packs of previous OMFS Section meetings.
